I want to take my family to Greece for a Vacation. What is the best time of year to visit September or December? And is Athens the best spot or is there a better location?

  1. i just learned about Greece in school and the Athens. I dont know about your question though. Just look it up online =)
  2. You might want to consider September, as Greece is in the northern hemisphere and december is a little too cold. I believe that athens is the best place in Greece, since it's the biggest city and offers the most attractions, although other cities and rural Greece offer some fantastic stuff as well.
  3. you could just rent a travel dvd about greece and order some pizza with lots of olives, pine nuts and anchovies plus a side dish of scampi, eh? whip out the greek dance dvd and you will save thousands of dollars. spend it on yourself. be a little more selfish and watch out for no. 1 as they say. tip from an old political pro. who you gonna trust me or your family? voting time is getting near. you could contribute to someone's run for the presidentcy, eh?
  4. I visited Greece last year for the first time and I would recommend Skiathos. The company I travelled with have apartments, villas and hotels in Skiathos. It really was a lovely island. I hear Santorini is a nice island too. Definitely travel in Spetember a lot of Greece shuts down in December and the weather is not so good. I have detailed the company I travelled with below - contact them if you have any queries they were very helpful.
  5. i would recommend you to go in September when it's nice and sunny,if you are spending some time there,go see some of the beautiful islands around,it's just a boat trip away.and life is way more slow....bur athens is great to..have a great trip:)
  6. Athens is a must see, but not alone. I mean you can see most of Athens in 3 days. You can either combine it with some nearby daily excursions (Delphi and Hosios Lukas, Nafplio and Epidauros, the islands of Hydra and Egina) or an excursion to some island like Syros, Siphnos, Naxos, Milos. These are islands perfect for family vacation, good beaches, food and architecture.

    September is best.
  7. Aside of what cpinatsi very nicely outlined for you, there are some more magical spots, like Meteora, Mt. Pilion, Zagorohoria, Monemvasia, in mainland Greece that are

    absolutely breathtaking.
  8. September in nice ; not too hot not cold yet

From Athens ( you can see the most in 3days on foot -http://www.greece-athens.com/intresting.php) you can visit many islands by boat (Hydra,Aegina,Poros)or fast-ferries (Mykonos,Santorini, even Corfu) or daily excursions to: Nafplio( Mycenae and Epidaurus),Cape Sounion(great sunset, Temple of Poseidon),Rafina( Mount Pendeli),Delphi, Loutraki, Marathon........

And every evening different Greek food and Greek music...
  9. I would go in September because it isn't to cold in December it snows and it's very beautiful at all but it's too cold.If you want to see monuments it's better if they aren't covered with snow....In September you can also go to the beach it will be a little cold but if there is a warm day you can go there is more possibility to find a warm day in September than in December....In my opinion Athens or Thessaloniki...these are the biggest cities and you can find a lot to do and if you want to see some islands you can take the flying dolphin and go to a island like Hydra,Poros or spetses....I hope you will enjoy!
  10. I would say aim for September. Decembers can get quite chilly there. While I think Athens is a great place to start, I wouldnt spend more than a couple days there, then head to one of the islands. The images you always see of Greece are typically from Mykonos or Santorini (the white washed buildings, sparkling seas). You can check with a travel agent that had a good knowledge of Greece. She can recommend an island (or 2) to include in your travels.
  11. I am a travel agent, so I'll tell u September!

    There are many good spots!

    Kisses from Greece, sweety!
  12. Hello from Athens!

The best time to visit Greece is now! . I meen from mars until june, the tickets are lower and the weather begins to be hot!, also after September is nice.

The best spot to see in Athens is acropolis and placa normally, and all monuments arount like Syntagma, lycabetus hill, and seeinsights.

Have a nice travel whenever you comes!.
